Furious! Brand new Pentair skimmer already leaking after one winter with mesh cover.
Winter Water Level

**RAGE MODE ACTIVATED!** Just finished my winter pool prep WOD and discovered my Pentair skimmer is leaking like a sieve! This thing was installed LAST SPRING! One Colorado winter with a mesh cover and it's already failing? Unacceptable. I followed all the manufacturer guidelines, kept the water level managed, and this is what I get? Pentair needs to step up their game - this is weak sauce for a 'premium' brand. I'm calling them first thing tomorrow and demanding a replacement. Anyone else had this issue?

Oh no, Pete! That sounds super frustrating! But before we blame the equipment, let's think about holistic pool wellness! :sunny: Mesh covers are amazing for letting rainwater through naturally, but Colorado winters can be brutal with freeze-thaw cycles! :snowflake: Did you use any winterizing chemicals to maintain water balance? Sometimes mineral buildup or pH shifts can stress equipment. Also, have you checked if the leak is coming from the seal or the actual skimmer body? A little investigative work with food coloring (totally natural!) might help pinpoint the issue! :microscope:

Unnecessary complexity. Mesh cover + Colorado winter = predictable stress on equipment. Pentair makes decent products, but all equipment fails eventually. Instead of ranting, simplify: identify leak source, contact Pentair warranty (should still be valid), document everything. If warranty claim fails, repair or replace minimally. Less emotion, more action. Water waste is the real issue here.

Gummy - I appreciate the positive vibes, but this isn't about 'holistic wellness' - it's about a $300+ piece of equipment failing after ONE SEASON! I winterized properly with the recommended chemicals. Bob - 'predictable stress'? Come on! This shouldn't happen with a brand new skimmer from a major brand. I'm not going to quietly accept premature failure. This is about holding companies accountable for their products. Update: Just got off the phone with Pentair - they're sending a replacement under warranty, but I still have to do the install myself. Better than nothing, but still annoying.

Yay for the warranty replacement, Pete! :tada: That's a positive outcome! :sunflower: While you wait for the new skimmer, maybe this is a chance to optimize your winter routine! :brain: Consider adding a secondary sealant (aquarium-safe silicone is great!) during installation for extra protection. And remember - equipment lasts longer when we approach maintenance with calm energy! :om: Maybe some deep breathing while you install the new one? :yoga:

Warranty resolved it. Efficient. Pete's emotional expenditure was unnecessary. Gummy's sealant suggestion adds complexity - follow manufacturer instructions only. Extra products create waste. Lesson: proper documentation and direct warranty claims work. Now return to minimal pool maintenance. Thread served its purpose.
